2025
In the studio
I’ve had more time in the studio this past year. Time to follow ideas, explore materials, listen to new music, and visit with friends.
The focus of my work in clay is handbuilt tableware, using multiple types of clay bodies together in the same piece.
Often times this work starts as a drawing, and then moves to the clay where often the material then takes over.
Strategies of chance and accident are set in motion, creating organic graphic compositions unique to the moment and piece.
West Coast Craft
I participated in San Francisco’s West Coast Craft this past autumn. It was a ton of work and fun. Sooooooo many people came through! Feeling thankful for the conversations with those folx who connected with my vibe and to the ceramics that found a new home.
Places of Work
On Sunday mornings some dear friends would go dancing in San Francisco. They referred to it as church. Their church. This struck me as a beautiful and radical reframing of what such places can be. I would go on to identify other earlier zones from childhood–primarily the forests of the Adirondack Mountains and then the mighty Lake Ontario–as places just as likely for transcendence as an uncomfortable pew. I’m thankful to for all my creative work spaces. And to all the teachers. This is the place I am happiest, and that is why I do it.
Studio visits
Come to Petaluma.
I’ll make you a great pot of tea.
