This tableware project began about seven years ago with the simple idea of filling my cabinets with handmade bowls and plates. It became something else along the way.

About the work

I mostly hand-build (vs. throw) and focus on inlaying multiple clay bodies together to draw patterns. Often times the patterns start as a drawing or painting, so there is some conversation between the two and three dimensional.

I don’t build using repeatable blocks, so each piece is unique. This process is time-consuming and therefor allows for improvisation and accident.

These techniques were developed over an eight year span via work in classes, research, and time in the studio for experiementation, Clay is as humbling as it is compelling.
